Kaleidoscope Collective: A neurodivergent-affirming expressive arts therapy group for children that offers a low-demand, child-led space to explore feelings, build connection, and be fully themselves. Through process-oriented art-making, children are supported in navigating big emotions while gently building coping tools, self-advocacy skills, and flexible ways of connecting with others. Grounded in nervous system safety and respect for autonomy, this group honors each child’s unique inner world-creating space for self-expression, belonging, and connection in many different forms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this group for?
Kaleidoscope Collective is designed for children who identify as neurodivergent or who may benefit from a more flexible, low-demand environment. It’s a good fit for children who experience big emotions, anxiety, or who find traditional social groups overwhelming. What ages is this group for?
Groups are typically offered in small age ranges (for example, 6-8, 9-12, or 13-16) to support alignment and comfort. An age range other than your child’s age may be a better fit and I’m happy to discuss that with you. What does “low-demand, child-led” mean?
Children are invited-but never pressured-to participate. They can engage in art-making, observe, move around, or take breaks as needed. The group follows the child’s pace, honoring autonomy and nervous system needs. What will my child actually do in group?
Sessions include open-ended art-making, gentle prompts, and optional story or theme-based invitations. There is space for creative expression, parallel play, and connection, without a focus on performance or “right ways” to participate. We’ll explore a variety of materials over the course of the group. Is this a structured social skills group?
This group is not focused on teaching compliance-based social skills. Instead, it supports authentic connection through shared experiences, creativity, and relationship-building in a supportive, neurodivergent-affirming environment. Children are also supported in discovering and practicing self-advocacy in ways that feel authentic and empowering to them. How do you support children with anxiety or big feelings?
The group is grounded in nervous system safety. Children are supported in noticing and expressing feelings through art, sensory experiences, and relationship, while building coping tools in ways that feel natural and not forced. What if my child is shy or hesitant to join?
That’s completely okay. Children are welcome to take their time, observe, or take breaks in the waiting room with their caregiver if needed. There is no expectation to speak or participate in a certain way.How many children are in the group?
Groups are intentionally small (typically 4–6 children) to support comfort, flexibility, and individualized attention.Do parents stay during the group?
To support children’s independence, peer connection, and confidentiality, caregivers are asked to wait nearby. I’ll work with you if your child needs a more gradual transition. Is this group therapeutic?
Yes-this is a therapy group led by a licensed clinical mental health counselor and registered expressive arts therapist (who is also proudly neurodivergent!). While it is playful and creative, it is also grounded in therapeutic intention. Will I receive updates about my child?
Caregivers receive general updates and themes from group after sessions, along with space to check in as needed. To protect children’s privacy, specific details about other participants are not shared. What if we can only attend some of the sessions?
Groups are designed as a consistent, relational experience, and children benefit most from attending regularly. If you anticipate missing multiple sessions, I’m happy to talk with you about whether this group feels like the right fit at this time. What is your missed session policy?
Because space is held specifically for your child and groups rely on consistency, missed sessions are not reimbursed. What if my child needs more support than a group can offer?
I’ll collaborate with you to determine whether this group is a good fit. If additional or individual support would be more helpful, we can talk through options together.Insurance & Payment
